We made it to Mexico. We had uneventful flights and an uneventful bus ride. Apparently they don’t all speak english but the ones that do want to sell us something. We’ve been offered haircuts and a free breakfast with timeshare presentation. We did not partake in either. Best things so far are the room temp storable eggs and our fish taco lunch.… Read the rest

Today was full of packing and eating. We fit what we could in our luggage and abandoned the rest to cubbyholes here and there. I burnt the oatmeal a little this morning while I checked into our flight to Cancun. We still ate it and the stuff that wasn’t burned was delicious. Jill put pumpkin puree on hers and loved it.… Read the rest

Today we were pretty stressed out. It seems that leaving the country without a packaged vacation and a return ticket is hair raising. Happy Halloween!
We walked to the post office and mailed a couple letters and a package. We catalogued all our passwords and log-ins. We wrote down important phone numbers. We put it all in our shoes. Don’t tell anyone!… Read the rest

Jill slept in this morning. She forgot to set her alarm and I got up before her. That never happens. I made oatmeal and coffee for us. I cleaned the bathroom and Jill cooked a bunch of rice and lentils. Then we kayaked over to the dome house. We thought about going to the sandbar but it seemed too far. We saw a big group of dolphins going that way though.… Read the rest

I’m reading The Laughing Policeman. I’m trying to finish it before we leave for Mexico. It is a Swedish Crime novel I found here. I like the story and it is taking place with Stockholm winter setting in. It is a good reminder what Jill and I will be missing out on this year. I continued reading it when I woke up this morning instead of going for a walk with Jill.… Read the rest

Jill and I went for a walk this morning. It was quite cool. We are both excited to leave Florida for now. Its fun to follow the heat. The septic guy came and drained Matt’s tank while Jill and I ate lunch on the dock. My brother once uttered the wisdom, You’ve got to accept it like the septic tank. We did just that in the bright sunlight.… Read the rest

Jill and I kayaked to the four-winds marina. We were going to the store to see if they had toothbrushes. I dropped Jill’s toothbrush on the floor and she wanted a new one. I needed a new one too. In the creek outside the marina we saw a piece of lumber bobbing in the water. We grabbed it and decided to put it up on the seawall so no one would hit it.… Read the rest

Today we were woken up at 6 AM but the unpleasant chirp of the fire alarm. The fire alarm is on the 20 foot ceiling and we have no ladder. That continued going off every minute or so until after 8 AM, a wonderful way to start the morning. I called the manufacturer and by the time they got back to me the chirping went away.… Read the rest

Jill is outside on her computer. I’m inside on my computer. Today is Tuesday, that means we walk down the street to get the weekly Eagle. Its a highlight. Seven days until we leave for Cancun. Technically eight but its a very early flight. Yesterday we got our last immunization shot. Now we are just packing and tying loose ends. Yesterday we agreed to volunteer at a chocolatier outside Antigua, Guatemala next month.… Read the rest
Signs of Life
I am writing this from my new job. Before I came to work today I sat down in the Crystal Court atrium. It is a great place to be alone in the middle of downtown Minneapolis’ hustle and bustle. I sat for five minutes and thought about what I wanted. My eyes wandered to the man drawing on a piece of cardboard and the woman staring into her phone. … Read the rest
