Yesterday, we took a stroll around town. We walked to a hostel in Boca Grande and decided to move there on Monday. Jill wanted a window and it’s a little cheaper. Jill bought a dress, and we ate lunch at a place called Puerto Rico. The food was top notch and cost around 10 dollars. After lunch we met a man named Pedro; he was proud of Colombia and invited our questions of him.… Read the rest

Today, we went to the Avianca airline bureau down the street. We were going to buy tickets to Bogota there. You see, last night we were going to purchase tickets online and it was a little complicated between the internet being annoying and a certain language barrier rearing its head. The store is conveniently about 2 blocks away. When we arrived they told us that the super cheap $40 tickets were only for buyers on the internet.… Read the rest

Yesterday, we considered our options. We considered our options sitting in our room, sitting at lunch, and sitting watching the sunset. In our room we looked through our books and the internet and found some fun places to go in South America. Sitting at lunch we left the books on the table and enjoyed a delicious vegetarian meal. Sitting watching the sunset I said that Central America feels like it was one trip and South America feels like another.… Read the rest

I had an oatmeal breakfast with Jill. Then we walked over to the San Alberto Cafe for a coffee tasting with Coralie and Mikhail. We learned about Colombian coffee and the growing and harvesting process. We tried different tastes so we could identify the flavor of salty, sweet, bitter, and sour. That was easy. The hard part was doing the same with different smells. … Read the rest

we found our way to the airport in Panama at 5 AM. I wanted to go back to bed. Our plane was with Copa Airline. Our flight was an hour yet we got beverage service, a meal, and the smoothest descent I can remember. Jill took a Dramamine and wished she hadn’t. When we arrived in Cartagena I saw a couple white sand islands on the way down and we passed some high rises on the Boca Grande peninsula.… Read the rest

We rode a bus for too long to get here. The bus goes west to go east in Costa Rica. We arrived at 3:30 AM. Then we realized it was now 4:30 AM because the time changed. Jill slept in a food court until the security guard roused her. We found our way to the other airport by city bus and then a taxi to our hostel.… Read the rest

We tried to get the camera fixed yesterday. When we picked it up this morning all we got was a diagnosis. It needs a new circuit board somewhere. We’re getting good at riding the train though. In a couple hours we get to get on a bus for 18 hours and end up in Panama City. San Jose is a wonderful city and we will be back for a bit in a couple months. … Read the rest

Today is Ben’s birthday. Jill wanted to do something special. We went for a walk to a couple of parks, and the National Library of Costa Rica. We stumbled upon a tiny café with delicious sandwiches. It also had a parakeet that wouldn’t stop singing a dog that laid down under my chair and happy people stepping in and out. We took the train to a mall and wandered around there for a while.… Read the rest

We arrived in San Jose yesterday afternoon. The bus from Granada was fine but long. We walked to our hotel and settled in. We went to an Argentine steak house for supper. It was delicious. After sleeping through the night both of us are ticking away at the computers. We have a beautiful view from our balcony. There are also pigeons that like to use it.… Read the rest

So here we are in Granda. It took 18 hours to get here and 2 border crossings. The Ticabus ride was run of the mill. I watched The Dark Knight Rises with English subtitles and Pirates of the Caribbean without. Jill slept the whole way. We arrived in Managua, hopped in a taxi, got on another bus, and finally another taxi.… Read the rest
