Well it’s been a bit. I finally have some time on my hands. 

On February 29, 2020, the USA confirmed it’s first death from COVID-19. 37 countries confirmed a first case of COVID-19 in February. [Wikipedia]

In my last post I said that we were moving into a condo. We booked it for a week because the current plan was to return to China on March 6.

What Happened to Plan B?

I’ve been busy lately so I apologize about the lack of updates. I’ll try to keep updating this irregularly for a month or so, then maybe I can get in a predictable routine again. This is a short summary of our first week (Feb. 23-28, 2020) in Penang, Malaysia at a hotel.

The Best Laid Plans

The USA confirmed one more case of COVID-19 on Feb. 20, bringing the total to 16. On Feb. 21 the USA confirmed 20 additional cases. Elsewhere in the world the case numbers rose. [Wikipedia]

Jill and I were wrapping things up in Amed but we were still waiting to return to China. There were rumors of k-12 schools in China starting again sometime in March but the government hadn’t issued any timeline.

Final Days in Ubud

February 11, 2020: The WHO names the disease COVID-19 and the virus is named SARS-CoV-2. 

February 12: The first case in London, UK is confirmed. 

February 13: Japan confirms its first death from COVID-19. The National University of Singapore starts a week of online classes.

May 24, 2021 goodbye Manila, hello Ubud

On the 30th of January, the Philippines confirmed its first case of COVID-19 in Manila. On the 31st, case number two was confirmed. We had booked a flight on the 31st for Bali already and I felt as if we were staying ahead of the virus. We were still on vacation and our plan was practically intact. I wasn’t going to worry about something that might clear up in a week.
