February 7, 2020 COVID-19 report: As of this date, our lovely province of Guangdong, China had over 1,000 cases and recorded the first death. Malaysia now had 15 cases. [Wikipedia]
It was the morning of our seventh day in Ubud. Dawn found us far from our beds. We had walked to a ridge in the dark for a view of the city sunrise. It was spectacular and the pictures don’t do it justice. As the light grew around us jungle trees and a few houses appeared under brightening clouds. A walker or two passed by. To the north I glimpsed Mount Agung, the highest point on Bali. Afterwards, we made our way back to the guesthouse and I spotted several animals and stumbled on a French bakery.
Back at the guesthouse I took more pictures. Then we went to a coffeeshop to relax because we hadn’t had enough coffee. I started a new journal in that little coffeeshop. So here is most of what I wrote that day:
What does the future hold? I’m in a coffeeshop, the power went out 15 minutes ago. Its hearing up quickly. I am sweating but not dripping. Outside, the sun in bearing down as it seems to do here. [it was a little before noon] Its quiet in here, the cafe is closed up, meant for AC. Now the air conditioner is dead on the wall like a lie. Am I here for a vacation, am I barred from my home? Apparently both.
The power came back on eventually. We made the decision to stay in Ubud for another week. We remained at the same guesthouse but did have to move into the cottage next door. We were not the only ones at this place. It was fairly busy with holiday makers. Ubud was not deserted at all.
Fabulous stuff here Martin. Thank you.
Fantastic photos and commentary- top notch. Loved civet cat in the last one. People eat/drink the weirdest stuff. So fun to see these motorcycles as well.
