Day 8 in Bali and a familiar face appears.

Feb. 8, 2020: the cases tick up.

We took a walk in the morning to a cafe on the outskirts of town. Jill picked it somehow, as I recall it seemed like a long walk. Jill wanted to get some work done because she was going to teach her students online when the semester started again. So we started to go to cafe’s most days and she would do some work. I took the time to look at my phone and write in my journal. Here is what I wrote:

Jill says we won’t be back in Shenzhen until May.

Still Wondering if I’m trapped. I’m feeling unplugged like China was a dream that I’ve woken from.

It’s all unreal here, yet I am reading constantly about it on the internet. It? What is it? I guess all the problems of the world. Maybe I should give that a rest but am I on call to return to China for work. All of a sudden, it all becomes some kind of joke. I’m holding my breath and for what? China to take care of me? What happens when the money runs out?

Then I wrote some ideas for saving money and working.

House sitting, Couchsurfing, Hello Talk, Workaway, VIPKid

We were so isolated but only physically so. We were relatively safe and secure and no options to move seemed better than what we were doing. I would start working for VIPKid in one month.

Later that evening we met up with our good friend from Shenzhen, Daria, for supper. She had been in Ubud on a meditation retreat. Now she was spending her time eating and doing Yoga. We were all wondering what the best course of action was.

Morning walk
We passed this place on our walk to the cafe.
Aegle marmelos Fruit
This is Aegle marmelos a fruit known as Maja in Indonesia or Bael fruit elsewhere.
Red Honda Motorbike
Here’s another pretty Honda Motorbike

We were ecstatic to find Daria in Ubud. It reminded us of meeting other friends in abnormal places.
It started pouring down rain while we talked to Daria.
