We went to the market this morning and picked up a few things. Then we went to find a baguette and walked up to the Cerro de la Cruz and had lunch. It was a beautiful day and we looked at view for a while. We looked in on the Candelaria ruin on our walk. It’s closed to the public and looks like it is someone’s driveway. The facade is gorgeous though and its on the way to the Cerro de la Cruz. Coming back to the house we looked in at the San Jeronimo ruin. It looks expansive and well kept. We’ll have to return when Jill doesn’t need the bathroom. Jill went to yoga this evening and I am sitting here. We are eating in tonight. Jill’s making some morrocan stew. We spent a chunk of the morning finding fennel and turmeric. Neither of us new the Spanish words for them. The spice rack at the grocery had both names printed for dozens of spices though. Jill bought the Fennel. We didn’t buy the turmeric because we don’t need 16 ounces. Back at the market our helpful spice ladies said they didn’t have any Cúrcuma, let alone a little bit. At a different grocery we found some curry powder that seemed about right for turmeric.
I forgot to mention that Sundays are a big deal here. The church around the corner had a big party during the Super Bowl. As we walked home that night we found them parading a statue down a usually busy street. The oddest part was a gentleman with something like a sandwich board on. The board had a bunch of fireworks attached to it. Someone would light his fuse and then he’d run toward groups of people. Everyone would scream and get out of his way. Things got a little more hurried once his costume started shooting Roman candles in all directions. It seemed like fun but we left before we were set on fire.
